112 Melloconcha rosacea Microcystidae (Tiny glass-snails) Melloconcha rosacea Iredale, 1944 Tiny Rosy Glass-Snail Shell. Size: H = 1.8-2.1 mm, D = 3.7-4.1 mm. Colour: Dark amber-brown in live animals, golden brown when empty. Shape: Discoidal with a flat or slightly raised spire; whorls rounded; sutures flat. Sculpture: Shell smooth and glossy with fine, incised spiral grooves. Aperture: Ovately lunate; width greater than height. Umbilicus: Closed. Animal. Dark grey, with darker eyestalks. Key distinguishing features. Small size, flat spire and flat sutures, highly glossy, slippery shell, dark shell and body colour. Habitat and occurrence. Found island-wide, but with a patchy distribution that includes the walking trails around North Bay, Malabar and Kim’s lookout; Intermediate Hill, Rocky Run, Dinner Run and Boat Harbour; and the summits and slopes of Mt Lidgbird and Mt Gower. In rainforest, in leaf litter and in the crutches between palm stems and trunks. Remarks. The smallest Melloconcha species.
