A Field Guide to the Snails of Lord Howe Island

110 Microcystidae (Tiny glass-snails) Melloconcha miranda (Iredale, 1944) Miranda’s Glass-Snail Shell. Size: H = 3.7 mm, D = 6.7 mm. Colour: Pale golden. Shape: Discoidal with a low spire; whorls rounded; sutures deeply channelled. Sculpture: Shell smooth and highly glossy with fine, incised spiral grooves. Aperture: Ovately lunate; width greater than height; columella thickened. Umbilicus: Closed. Animal. Not known. Key distinguishing features. Larger size, channelled sutures, thickened columella. Habitat and occurrence. Mt Gower summit; never collected alive. Very rare. Remarks. This species is not figured here. It is only known from a single empty shell collected in 1913 and is likely to be extinct. It has been placed in monotypic genus Annacharis in the past, due to the channelled sutures seen in no other species, but is currently accepted as a member of Melloconcha .
