A Field Guide to the Snails of Lord Howe Island
69 Goweroconcha wilsoni. Image: C. Stehn. Key distinguishing features. Moderately large, discoidal shell with flat to slightly sunken spire and rounded whorls; rounded aperture; dark grey to black body. Habitat and occurrence. Summits and upper slopes of Mt Gower and Mt Lidgbird. Found in rainforest and moist woodland, under logs or dead palm fronds in litter. Remarks. Sympatric with G. wenda on the Mt Gower summit, but distinguishable by its larger size. A second form, bearing a close resemblance to G. wilsoni but with a paler shell (cream shell with irregular brown flammulations), more rapidly expanding whorls and a pale cream to grey body, has recently been discovered on the summit of Mt Gower. It is likely to represent an undescribed species. Malabar Kim’s Lookout Transit Hill Intermediate Hill Mt Lidgbird Mt Gower ▲ ▲ ▲ ▲ ▲ ▲ ● G. waterhousiae ● G. wenda ● G. wilsoni
