A Field Guide to the Snails of Lord Howe Island
120 Family Punctidae (Pinhead or Dot Snails) Genus Charopinesta Iredale, 1944 Shell. Size: H = 1.1-1.4 mm, D = 1.7-2.6 mm. Colour: Pale gold to golden amber. Shape: Depressedly turbinate with a low, stepped spire; sutures impressed to deeply impressed; whorl profile rounded. Sculpture: Protoconch with spiral lirae; teleoconch with closely to moderately spaced radial ribs. Aperture: Roundly lunate. Umbilicus: Moderately wide to widely open. Animal. Not known. Habitat and occurrence. One species known from the lowlands and Blackburn Island, one from Mt Gower and one from Mt Lidgbird. All are rare. Remarks. Members of Charopinesta are considerably smaller than Allenella . Charopinesta sema and C. suavis are not listed by Stanisic et al. (2010) but they remain valid names and so are included here.
